2025 Small Business Saturday | Saturday, November 29, 2025

At the City Council meeting on Monday, November 24, the City proclaimed November 29, 2025 as Small Business Saturday as part of the national effort to recognize and support the Shop Small Campaign. The Shop Small Campaign demonstrates the City’s ongoing commitment to local, small businesses and Adam Wells (right) of Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck, was present to accept the proclamation.

Small Business Saturday was created in 2010, during the midst of the Great Recession, to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. This day falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is a day designed to support local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve historic neighborhoods.

This effort to highlight small businesses has paid off with Small Business Saturday sales reaching around $19.8 billion in 2023, according to the American Express 2023 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey. The survey also found that 72 percent of shoppers said that the day makes them want to shop and dine at small, independently owned retailers and restaurants all year-long.

The City supports and encourages small business development and an entrepreneurial spirit by providing financial resources, technical assistance, and advocacy to our local businesses.

The proclamation was presented to owners of Missing Piece Puzzle Exchange, Denise Hoffman (left) and Erin Leidy (center).

The City of Westminster recognizes that small businesses are the driving force in the local economy and supports and encourages small business development through a variety of programs. The City provides financial assistance to encourage investment in business improvements and training for its employees, recognizes and honors local business through awards and with advocacy, organizes free training opportunities to build business capacity, and provides technical assistance on a variety of business start-up and support topics.
