M2 Confections, located at 6050 W. 92nd Ave. #500, is a high-end, fine chocolates and candy company in Westminster. They focus on local products, as well as sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients, to creatively provide wholly unique candy and gift experiences. We spoke with owners Kendall and Jonathan Mathews to learn more about the products and services they provide.

What can you tell us about your business?

M2 Confections (M2): We established our company in 2016 as a small side job and have since bloomed into a full-time candy and sweets company, opening our first storefront here in 2022. We mix old world techniques with modern flavors and sensibilities to provide our customers with chef-curated sweet collections.

Who are your customers?

M2: We predominantly serve the local community in Westminster as well as a robust online and shipping business. We also provide gifts for weddings, parties, corporate clients, and specialty stores, as well as custom options for anyone looking for something special!

What makes your business unique?

M2: Unlike most other high-end chocolate companies, all of our work is done by hand, not machines, and is tested by trained chefs with well over 35 years of combined experience in restaurants across the country. We provide one-of-a-kind flavor and textural experiences that highlight our local metropolitan food and drink companies, and we strive to deliver classic techniques in their peak forms of presentation.

You’ve received some awards for your work, what were they for?

M2: Before we opened our storefront, we won a best Home-Based business award in the North Denver Metro area and have been back-to-back grand champions at the Colorado Chocolate Festival, winning every Grand Champion Award since 2019.

Why did you choose Westminster?

M2: Westminster is a perfect community that supports its local businesses. We have enjoyed the dedication and assistance shown by the City in helping us realize our dream of running our own food company and all the convoluted steps that go into that, from zoning to inspections and everything in between.

Which direction is your business heading and what’s on the horizon?

M2: We are currently working on expanding our in-store offerings and partnerships with boutiques around the Denver metro area, as well as expanding into classes and catering beyond the usual chocolate and candy fare. We look forward to our continued growth and for the opportunity to call Westminster our home!

You were recently awarded a Capital Improvement Grant by the City of Westminster to assist with the buildout of your new location. The grant was used to offset the costs of purchasing new tangible property assets (including signage, kitchen equipment, displays, furniture, and more); how did this grant help your business?

M2: The Small Business Capital Grant was an excellent way for us to supplement our opening costs from the City. It was substantial enough to help us open the business debt free after all opening expenses were paid for. We were able to make smarter decisions on the equipment we could buy and had the peace of mind knowing the community was there to back us up!
