The Shed, the first product rental superstore, announced today it is opening its flagship store in Westminster at The Solaire Shoppes, 8891 N. Harlan St across from the downtown re-development project.

The Shed first opened in Colorado in March 2020 at a warehouse off I-25 and 58th providing an Amazon-like experience for customers to order online and get rental products ranging from kayaks and carpet cleaners to tools and tents delivered. However, the company soon learned that a majority of customers preferred to pick up their rental themselves.

“People loved coming to The Shed and were in awe of the wide inventory we carry, so it became clear that having a retail storefront would enhance the customer experience and offer a true omni-channel shopping experience,” said Karen Rodgers-O’Neil, co-founder and CMO of The Shed. “Now people can stop in or order online, then choose pickup or delivery. We want to be the neighbor you call when you need something for a project, party or adventure.”

Westminster was chosen for The Shed’s first flagship store in the country because of its growth, as well as for being perfectly situated between Denver and Boulder and easily accessed from US 36. The Shed is currently operating from a temporary space at The Solaire Shoppes next to a 20,000 square foot space that will become the permanent flagship store location.

“As we pivot to this retail model and continue growing, we will look to expand our footprint throughout the Front Range Urban Corridor to even better serve Colorado,” said Daniel Perrone, The Shed’s CEO and Co-founder. “Simultaneously, we will be expanding into other markets across the country.”

Rental has become more mainstream in recent years with the advent of apparel, lodging and transportation rental options from companies like Rent the Runway, Airbnb and Lyft.

“The pandemic has only accelerated to the movement towards living for experiences versus accumulating things. The Shed is transforming the $217 billion consumer products rental market and giving Westminster area residents access to the expected and the unexpected,” said Perrone.

The Shed’s rental categories serve consumer and business needs and include: event/party/wedding; camping and recreational; tools and carpet care; moving and travel; lawn and garden; games and concessions; medical and health and industrial solutions.

Within those categories, Westminster residents will find things such as drills, stand-up paddleboards, camping equipment, wheelchairs, snow cone machines, pressure washers, teardrop campers, excavators, sewing machines, party tents of all sizes, drywall sanders, outdoor games, generators, tiki bars, fine china and so much more.

“In addition to having a vast array of rentable items, we partner with best brand names like Dewalt, Bissell and SANY,” O’Neil shared. “So, if you only need an item a few times a year, like camping or tools for a project, the cost of renting top-of-the-line products is much less, and you don’t have to store it the other 360 days of the year.”
